Designing the line block range for Footprint tools
British hand tool manufacturer, Footprint Tools produces world renowned ‘drop forged steel line pins’ from their factory in Sheffield (UK). To complement the line pins, Footprint Tools commissioned Vital Spark Creative to develop a new type of line block, a product used by bricklayers to support their guide line.
Following a thorough review of other products in the market, as well as understanding how line blocks are used in practice, we were able to confidently draw up our 2D concept designs based on Footprint Tool’s design brief. We then produced a 3D CAD model, 3D printed the proposed tool and tested various iterations of the design, repeating the process until we knew we had a successful product. Then we introduced Footprint Tools to one of our UK moulders and arranged for the injection moulding tooling to be cut.
By working closely with Footprint Tools from initial brief right through to moulding the final product, we produced a distinctive, best-in-class and feature rich product, that is manufactured in the UK at the best price.
